I’ve been drooling over the desktop calendars that Smashing Magazine highlights and have wanted to make one of my own for the last year. This challenge has given me a good excuse – although mine is a far cry from the ones that are showcased there.
This was created in Photoshop CS3 using a gradient for the background, a vector line brush for the starburst effect, Plain Doodle Tags Brush by Pixels and Ice Cream, and the elephant was a Sketchbook Scribble Brush by Invisible Snow on Deviant Art.
It took me about 20 minutes to make once I decided on a color scheme. 
That’s always the hardest part for me — so many delicious colors to choose from. I’m including 3 download links for the three different sizes that are available.

Heather – I found the inspiration on Smashing magazine’s site — one of the guys had posted that he just created in several different sizes, so I just opened up Photoshop and created the largest size first (1920×1440) and then shrunk down accordingly!

Yes, I mean EVERY. DAY. (well, not Sundays!) But 6 days a week, I’ll be using this challenge to just create something I’ve never tried before or to improve my skills in areas where I’m really weak: hint – Illustrator!
